International Permaculture Convergence

7-15 November 2026

In November 2026 Thailand will have the honor of hosting the International Permaculture Convergence (IPC). This is a global gathering of permaculture practitioners, designers, enthusiasts, and people who care about the future of the world and who live according to the three Ethics of Permaculture: People Care, Earth Care and Fair Share. IPC is normally held every two years in a different location worldwide. This will be the first time the IPC has been held in Thailand, and to make the most of Thailand’s position as a major food producer and foodie paradise, the IPC will include many food-related topics such as local food systems, regenerative agriculture, food forests, indigenous food heritage, farming for the future, soil restoration, sustainable agriculture, and food as medicine, as well as the principles of the Sufficiency Economy.

The event will include both a Conference component open to the public and a Convergence which is a more intensive learning experience. Both events will feature presentations, workshops, and discussions on a wide range of permaculture-related topics, including building resilience in the face of environmental, economic and demographic challenges, restoring healthy ecosystems, and community building.

Children will be especially welcome with many activities planned for them. Beyond Sustainability – Many Paths

Permaculture draws from many indigenous and local knowledge systems that hold the same key values and principles and the theme of the Thailand IPC is Beyond Sustainability – Many Paths. This builds on core permaculture principles of integrating design with natural processes and systems to create a more sustainable and resilient future. Organisers hope to raise awareness about how permaculture’s design principles are beneficial in every aspect of life including business, cities and grassroots communities.

At the event there will be many tracks to choose from: Appropriate technology (AT), Basics for Thais, Natural Building, Children, Collective Design, Food, Health/Well-being, Land/Agro, Learning, Permaculture by other names, Social/Cultural, Urban Permaculture, Wealth.

IPC16 aims to:

  • Connect, reconnect, and learn from each other
  • Explore challenges, solutions, co-design
  • Facilitate collaboration, incubation, innovation
  • Celebrate diverse cultures and local traditions
  • Exchange ideas & seeds, sell local products
  • Design, build value for the venues
  • Share inspiring cases from Thailand and the world

Weather, accommodation and culture

The weather in November in Thailand is generally cooler and drier than other times of the year – such as in the range of 18-25 degrees.

Accommodation at the conference can be at the venue which includes private rooms and dormitories or at a nearby hotel. At the convergence accommodation will be mainly camping on site although there are also lovely nearby resorts.

Culture Thailand is a majority Buddhist culture, with deep roots in respect, hospitality, and non-confrontation. Dress modestly to visit temples (covered legs, shoulders, chest). Monks cannot be touched by women and if a woman offers something to a monk there is a special way of doing so. Don’t point your feet at elders or Buddha images; don’t touch people’s heads.

Other sensitivities for Thailand would include “kreng Jai”: a cultural value of not burdening others — be gentle, don’t push. “wai”: hands together in greeting (like Namaste). Take shoes off before entering a house, many places of worship and even some offices. “

IPC16 Conference

7-8 November, 2026 (Saturday, Sunday)

The 2-day Conference will be at The Golden Jubilee Museum of Agriculture (aka The Chalerm Agricultural Museum), in Pathum Thani, halfway between Bangkok and Ayutthaya, which was built in honour of the former King of Thailand Rama the Great and it is dedicated to his teachings about the Sufficiency Economy.

The conference is held simultaneously with the monthly Farmers Market. The event will be enriched by many special guest vendors and experts from all over Thailand who will showcase interesting projects, products, groups as well as educational and fun workshops for Thai and international participants.

The day before the Conference, 6 November, Friday, we will celebrate together Loy Krathong, a Thai water festival featuring beautiful natural floats with candles. It’s a great opportunity to set intentions for the IPC16 and experience famous Thai hospitality and culture.

Getting to the Golden Jubilee Museum

The Golden Jubilee Museum is about 54 kilometres from Bangkok, and buses and vans for participants will be arranged by the organisers. Other alternatives include a train to Pak Chong about 40 K away (cheap but has to be booked well in advance), Grab taxi, or private car. To see the exact location please visit The Golden Jubilee Museum of Agriculture.

IPC16 Convergence

11-15 November, 2026 (Wednesday-Sunday)

The 5-day Convergence will be held at the Suan Loong Choke, Bamboo Wisdom Centre in Wang Nam Khiew, Korat.

It is a beautiful forest garden near Khao Yai National Park created by Loong Choke with many bamboo groves that follow the slope of the land, which exemplifies good ecological design in line with permaculture principles. It was the site of the 4th Thailand Permaculture Convergence in 2016 – see video.

The convergence will feature daily keynote discussions on a wide range of social, economic and environmental challenges, cultural exchanges, a marketplace, workshops about healthy design for work and play, indigenous foods and herbs, building with bamboo, biochar production.

There will be a marketplace for selling local products and sampling coffee and foods.
